Clean first, then decide
Most overheating and noise starts with dust clogging the fan and heatsink. Blow out the vents and, if you are comfortable opening the base, clean the fan and reapply thermal paste. If temperatures and noise stay high after that, or the fan rattles or does not spin, the bearing is worn and the fan should be replaced.
- Loud rattle/whir → worn bearing
- Shutdowns under load → replace
- Fan does not spin → replace
- Quiet after cleaning → keep
