What this guide covers

Modern MacBooks charge over USB-C Power Delivery (and newer ones add MagSafe 3).

Match the wattage to the model: MacBook Air ~30–35W, MacBook Pro 67–96W+.

A lower-wattage charger charges slowly and may not keep up under load.

USB-C vs MagSafe

Recent MacBooks charge via USB-C Power Delivery; newer models also support MagSafe 3 magnetic charging while still accepting USB-C. Either works as long as the wattage is right. Older MacBooks used MagSafe 1/2, which are different connectors.

  • MacBook Air: ~30–35W
  • MacBook Pro 13/14: 67–96W
  • MacBook Pro 16: 96–140W
  • USB-C PD works on USB-C models

Match the wattage

Use a charger at or above your MacBook’s rated wattage. A 30W charger on a MacBook Pro will charge slowly and may not keep up while you work. A higher-wattage PD charger is safe — the MacBook draws only what it needs.

Questions customers ask

Can I charge a MacBook with any USB-C charger?

A USB-C PD charger works if it provides enough wattage for your model. Too little wattage charges slowly or not under load.

What wattage charger does my MacBook need?

MacBook Air is around 30–35W; MacBook Pro models need 67W to 140W depending on size. Match or exceed the original wattage.
