Does your laptop charge over USB-C?

Not every USB-C port charges a laptop — some are data/display only. Check that your laptop shipped with a USB-C charger or that the port has a charging/PD marking. If your laptop came with a barrel charger, it does not charge over USB-C.

Match the Power Delivery wattage

USB-C PD chargers come in wattages like 45W, 65W and 100W. Buy at least the wattage your laptop originally used. A 30W phone charger may keep a laptop alive at idle but will not charge it properly while you work, and the battery can still drain under load.

Can any USB-C charger charge my laptop?

Only USB-C chargers that support Power Delivery at the required wattage. A low-watt phone charger will not properly charge a laptop under load.

How many watts does my USB-C laptop need?

Match the original charger’s wattage (commonly 45W or 65W). A higher-wattage PD charger is safe; a lower one is not enough.
